Mid-Season Update: US Winter Sports

It’s almost homecoming again, and that means we are already halfway through the winter sports season! Looking back from November to now, the tigers have been doing a super job across the board in all levels of soccer, basketball, and water polo.

“I think we will continue to do well this year because our team has good chemistry,” said Sarah Rozario ’17, varsity basketball guard.

To debrief the first half of the 2014-2015 Upper School Winter Sports Season:

JV soccer is currently at a league record of 1-5-1, once defeating Prep League adversary the Polytechnic Panthers.

Varsity soccer has a league record of 0-2, but there are plenty more games to come, including the homecoming soccer game at Frank Field on January 9th. Catch the game against Mayfield Senior School at 3:30, and don’t forget to stop by the Pie n’ Burger truck.

Varsity water polo has been unstoppable this season, undefeated in league play and coming in second place at their Burbank tournament and champions of the annual Los Altos Varsity Water Polo Tournament. Their home pool is at Blair High School, so don’t forget about supporting our aquatic tigers!

JV basketball is 4-1 in league play, and after losing to Flintridge Preparatory by three points in December, the tigers came back Tuesday to defeat the rebels! If you’re cold outside watching soccer, remember Hoffman Gymnasium will be having JV basketball take on Waverly High School at 3:30!

Varsity basketball, after having a rocky start in preseason competitions, has 3-2 record so far, placing them second in the Prep League! It looks like that fitness testing is paying off. For homecoming, varsity basketball will take on the Blair High School vikings at 5:30 in Hoffman Gymnasium, so be ready to pack the stands!

Westridge is off to a great start in winter sports, so be sure to support your teams tomorrow at homecoming and throughout the rest of the season.
