In 2010-2011 season, the Varsity Soccer team reached the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs on a wild card after finishing fourth in the Prep League. This year, having won only one game, the team dropped significantly in the rankings. Several factors contributed to the soccer team’s weak season.
Marina Settlemeyer ’14 commented: “We had a hard year because we lost so many seniors who were key players. Although we gained new players, it was hard because we also got a new coach. With the new coach, Felipe, it was difficult to adjust to his coaching style.”
Although the season has been tough, the team has managed to see through the hard times and find the positive aspects of the season. They found memorable moments in practices, games and weekly team lunches and had a good time playing with each other.
In order to improve next season, Settlemeyer believes that the team will be solid after many practices and training sessions. She added that if they communicate more on the field and maintain their fitness level off and on the season, they can improve tremendously.
